Mini-Reviews: Harry Potter, Simpsons

The Simpsons Movie: No Alf Clausen? A crime!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
: Not a single game of quidditch? Feh!

Oh, all right -- I'm just lazy. And the arrival of August 1st brings with it the first glimpse of the end of the summer: classes begin August 27th. There's a whole lot to be done before then, so a panicky feeling descends. "Somehow it will all get done", right? It's sounding less convincing now.

I may get around to reviewing those two cultural touchstones, but in the meantime I think you might be able to find other reviews somewhere.

We went to see Harry Potter last Friday, and it was about what I expected - it was amazing how much they can cut out and still make it pretty much coherent on screen. But it was hard to see so much cut out, and it was harder still to now know what happens to some of the characters.

I heard that Rowlings had to tell the screenwriter to reinsert someone he had written out because, "That character would be needed later." Wonder if it was Tonks?

The director of this one didn't seem to get the mood of the previous films, and I don't think he got as good a performance as the others. I would rate this the least of the five, and I hope they get the next two right.

SPOILER ALERT!

You naughty gal. Somewhere a HP fan is weeping. Wait, if they're that much of a fan, they'll already know. I suppose you didn't say WHY she was needed.

I thought it was good enough. The cast is so good that I think they can do a lot on their own, but the choices in editing seemed clunky at times.

So what's your assessment of the book?

It's the house elf, Kreacher.

I agree with chuckie58...while I enjoyed it and like seeing the story progress, this was the least of the bunch.

Hopefully, the next two will be better. Especially since my favorite character will be playing a bigger role in the coming stories.

Guess which character it is? ;-)

Voldemort?

:-)

Luna? I like Luna. And yes, he's a bad character, but more Lucius (luscious!) Malfoy is a good thing. Mmmmm, Jason Issacs!

I bet you're right about Kreacher. You wouldn't really expect what happens to him. The director might easily chop his part in this film. You so smart!

I liked the film because it was very dark. Dark is good.

I like Luna, she's cool. But she's not my absolute favorite.

I'll give you a hint...it's a dark character, but not a Malfoy.
