Hurrah -- thanks to our network of friends, we finally signed a lease for a place in North Albany. You can see pictures of it here, thanks to Dan and Kaitlin, who actually checked out the house for us. It's small, but it is a house and not an apartment, which we were loathe to return to occupying. The landlords seem nice, the area quiet. There are just all kinds of auspicious signs.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dan and to Robert, both of whom did yeoman work on our behalf.
Now there's just the whole packing, movers and traveling part...

I recommend the "you pack it, we drive it, you unpack it" approach. My new colleague did that last year, and all her stuff made it intact.
Well, if we weren't in the 95+ degrees, 95-100% humidity of Houston, perhaps. We rented a truck to move to the house we're in now and nearly collapsed from the heat and humidity while loading it -- and that was stretched over a couple of days. You can collapse from the heat and humidity just standing around, let alone lifting heaving boxes (and we have a LOT of heavy boxes of books).
Thanks for all the help! You and Kaitlin really helped us out with this house.
