Having moved approximately a billion times in my life, and mostly under my own power in the latter several hundred million times, I am now loathe to even consider movement.
I think movement is highly overrated. I would aim to remain entirely stationary and filled with inertia for as long as possible.
Having only moved half a billion times, I fear that the trajectory of my life will increase the moving if I let it, after not having moved anywhere during my childhood except next door -- and then only when I was months old and had had little time to gain possessions...
Look at the bright side. By lifting and toting those boxes, you're adding the kind of tone and definition to your muscles that's typically achieved only by the hiring of an expensive personal trainer.
Kate, "allegedly" is a great term to describe friends who are willing to help move. I moved 30 minutes away last week and many people buggered out on me when the time came for moving. I believe in hiring movers again because those are always reliable.
I have to say that we have been very lucky over the years to have a lot of help from friends who know just how many books, cds, dvds and so forth we have and yet help us pack up and move. That includes one unexpected move in February in Connecticut when our septic system died and could not be fixed. Utterly miserable and unplanned -- yet we had help. We've just been slow off the mark this time -- mostly because I have been away and we have both been incredibly disorganized. Sigh.

And you allegedly have friends willing to help!
Don't worry...it's almost over.
Cranky,
It's barely begun. You should know better -- you've helped move it all before.
Crispinus,
Still allegedly.
Elena,
I will try to consider that a plus.
