As Inspector Clouseau Might Say

The case is "solv-ed."

The only problem with our new car? Well, see, they only had one key when we picked it up but hoped to find the other one. So we swang by Lowe's and had a duplicate made right away. The problem -- new keys? They have chips in them. So if someone tries to copy your key and steal your car, the car "knows" there's no chip and won't start.

D'oh.

So, now the car is fine. They still can't find the other key, but have promised to reimburse us for a second key, for which we have to go to a Honda dealership (bought our Honda from a Toyota dealer because they had a better deal on used cars).

I guess this also solves the mystery of the dashboard light that looks like a green key...

Remind me to keep buying older, "manual" cars...

At least it is still a manual shift (5 speed) but electric windows, etc. But we got tired of being nickeled and dimed to death with an old car. Hopefully this 2002 will last as long as the 1990 Civic did, and may still be! Alas, away down in Houston where she may still be tooling around...

Yeah- my 2002 has ONE o' them fancy keys. It will only ever have one, as the dealer told me it would be more than $85 to cut another key.
I almost killed him in a rit of fealous jage!
However, I was able to replace the electronic keyfob via Ebay for a mere $5....

Well, I just called the local Honda dealer (who could have helped us avoid this problem by having cheaper used cars!) and it will cost about $40 to get a new duplicate (for which the Toyota dealer promised to reimburse us).

And Gene tells me we will get a whopping $1 discount off our insurance for the "smart" keys. Whoop-de-doo.
