Jane Quiet Cover
Elena's put up her first go at the cover of Jane Quiet. She wants your feedback -- is it gruesome enough?! What do you think? This is going to be our chief selling point to grab eyeballs -- does it work?
Consider my eyeballs grabbed!
Wow - I think it's gorgeous!
A couple comments:
1) Does it need a sub-title, like "Psychic Investigator" or something? Just to give it a sort-of brand or genre (I know, I know...). Sorta like "Doctor Strange, Master of the Mystic Arts"...
2) I'm really torn: The monster looks amazing here. But is it a "spoiler" to reveal it so clearly on the cover? If you don't, the reader doesn't quite know what they're in for. But if you do, then you lose the "shock" value when it appears in the story. Like I said, I'm torn, because I do really, really like this!

I was going to say what The Queen said, but she beat me to it.
Nice job, Elena!
iI hate to be the naysayer here, but while the cover is good, it's not great. There needs to be more tension between the monster and the main character, and the bird's eye view is diminishing the impact of the monster. The trouble is the cover is too 'up and down' - there's no real dynamic between the characters or their relationship to their surroundings.
Technically, it's gorgeous. From a design POV, not so much.
Just my tuppence - feel free to ignore me!
Thanks, Brad! You have the professional eye, so your input is really appreciated (I just likes the purty pictures). I can tell when two things are side by side that one looks better than the other, but I'm not very good at articulating why.
It's great to get all this helpful input from folks before the final print version. I've already chucked out my first introduction to try to write something a little less yawn-inducing...
