First Day of Classes

Argh -- first day, many worries, lots of nerves. It helps that they're working on the roof of the house where my office is. But my photocopies are made and my Powerpoint lecture for the medieval class is ready. I still worry, though Gene is right, it will no doubt be fine. Robert, of course, has advised that I have the students stand on their desks and rip pages out of their books. Har har.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

At least I'm not on the second floor! Heh, heh -- should I worry about my new colleagues reading my blog? Nah!

I love the blog, at least what I've read! Go Finland! Frightening mullet, no?

Kate, Welcome back! I plan on blogging about my experiences in the classroom throughout this semester as I begin teaching freshman composition.

I love the links to Dead Poets' Society. I remember Secondary Education teachers hating movies like Dead Poets' Society, Emperor's Club, Mona Lisa Smile (not a favorite of mine), and the like, but I never knew why. I wish I knew then that those movies are not inspiring new high school or elementary teachers, but college professors instead.

Good luck with class! I'm sure you'll do fine (Gene is always...usually...mostly correct).
:-)

Joey starts his class tonight (Tuesday) and I start mine on Monday teh 11th. I think prolonging it like this makes it worse.

Heya -- thanks for all the posts on first day. Cheryl: good luck to Joey! and to you next week. Can't wait for the BBQ.

Bobby: I think no one wants to admit to be sentimental about teaching. It's corny (but yeah, I like DPS). It'll be fun reading about your experiences teachign comp. This is my first semester...ever? not teachign comp. Wow.

Hey Dan -- mullets are ALWAYS scary. Glad you got some fashion sense ;-)
